Premier League owners announce record-breaking £1billion stadium for their other club

Premier League owners announce record-breaking £1billion stadium for their other club:

Roma’s ambitious new stadium plans are one step closer to becoming a reality… which will lead to their billionaire owners being handed a hefty construction bill.

The move is being engineered by The Friedkin Group, who also own Premier League side Everton.

This season saw the Toffees move into the Hill Dickinson Stadium – ending their 133-year stay at Goodison Park.

And what better club for The Friedkin Group to choose than Roma, who were the first visiting team to face Everton at the stadium in August.

And now Roma look set to follow in their footsteps by departing the Stadio Olimpico, the home they share with bitter rivals Lazio.

The Serie A side have announced they have submitted the key feasibility documents needed to begin their process of moving away from the iconic venue.

Roma’s plans will now go through the City Council commissions in early 2026 as they look to press ahead with their record-breaking proposed ground.

A club statement read: “The submitted project represents the result of in-depth work carried out with technical precision, attention to sustainability, and a clear vision: to offer the city of Rome and its fans a facility worthy of their history, passion, and future.”

Big plans

With a planned location within Rome’s Pietralata district, the new stadium is aiming for a capacity of 62,000 seats.

That is down from the 70,634 that the Stadio Olimpico holds.

Though with a reported estimated cost of around £1.1billion, it stands to be the most expensive stadium ever built in Italy.

It would also see The Friedkin Group splash out almost £2bn on new stadiums with the Hill Dickinson believed to have cost around £800m.

Roma are hoping to hold Euro 2032 matches at the venue

Roma are hoping to move into their new home by 2028, with a view to hosting potential matches at Euro 2032 – co-hosted by Italy and Turkey.

The proposed new ground is taking inspiration from Borussia Dortmund’s famous Yellow Wall at Signal Iduna Park.

The Curva Sud – the south stand behind the goal – is being billed as the biggest single end in Europe.

Roma claims that it will hold a whopping 21,000 supporters.

They claim that it is ‘designed as the beating heart of the stadium and a symbol of Romanista passion’.

And when stating what other notable features the ground will have, Roma said: “Iconic architecture inspired by Roman tradition, with contemporary lines and a strong connection to the local territory.

“Modern, multifunctional spaces designed to experience AS Roma beyond matchdays.

“Targeted initiatives to improve mobility, services, environmental sustainability, and urban integration, with the goal of creating a sports and social hub of reference for the capital.”

Meanwhile, the development features plans to include Metro access and high-speed rail near Roma Tiburtina, as well as the introduction of tram links, bridges and new roads.
