Bruno Guimaraes has suffered a serious muscle injury that will rule him out against Manchester City and others, but he has a good chance to return before Newcastle United play Arsenal.

Just days after returning from an injury that saw him miss matches against Aston Villa, Liverpool, and Manchester City, Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes has suffered another more serious setback to rule him out for the next couple of months.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Guimaraes has a serious muscle injury, and the current expectation is that he’ll spend eight to 10 weeks on the sidelines.

Newcastle and the Brazil national team are in regular contact to assess the midfielder’s fitness and absence timeline, but his involvement in the March international break has already been ruled out.

A minimum of eight weeks out means the earliest Guimaraes could return would be the Crystal Palace match on April 11th. The full 10 weeks would make the player a doubt away to Arsenal on April 25th.

But in the meantime, the midfielder will certainly miss Newcastle’s trip to the Etihad Stadium to face Manchester City next weekend, as well as their match at home to Manchester United on March 4th, their trip to Chelsea on March 14th, and the Tyne-Wear derby on March 22nd.

Considering the 28-year-old had made 35 appearances this season and contributed 16 goals and assists, that’s a big blow to his team and their chances of winning those big games.

Newcastle will also play their Champions League play-off against Qarabag over the next week and a half, and Guimaraes would miss the potential round-of-16 and at least one leg of the quarter-finals if Newcastle can make it that far.

Further assessments should give us a more accurate timeline for the player’s return.
